It's a Family Affair
The Demings operate Olequa Farm and have done so since 1970 when Burke's grandparents purchased the farm. Over the past 40-plus years we've had many family celebrations at the Farm. Burke and Laura are gracious hosts for the extended family who have been known to be pitch in around the farm. No matter the occasion or event, Olequa Farm is a labor of love and family.
Burke Deming, primary farmer and resident expert, can be found in the fields or exploring the farm nearly any hour of the day. He attended Oregon State University's Agriculture School and has been raising many different types of plants since the mid '80s.
Laura Deming keeps the household running and takes care of behind-the-scenes farming. She's also a world-class cook which is important to visiting family. Laura works at Providence Health and Services in Centralia and handles box deliveries in that market.
Burke and Laura's two children, David and Molly, help when they're around. David is an extra set of muscle for heavy lifting while Molly's a stellar photographer when she's not away at grad school. While this picture is not recent, as all the kids are all older, there are often nieces and nephews who help out at the farm during the year.
